Our Labels

Each package of Smartdog Jerky ™ sports an adorable photo of a dog and these aren’t just any ordinary dogs, these are special dogs with happy tales to tell. Each dog depicted had sad beginnings – being homeless and housed in shelters or rescue groups. We share their journeys of how they came to be adopted and now thrive in loving homes.
Our mission is to champion the need to adopt dogs from shelters and rescue groups rather than from pet stores or backyard breeders. Far too many great dogs are euthanized each day because of overpopulation at shelters. Let’s work together and make puppy mills and their horrible conditions disappear. Open your heart and home to these wonderful “second-chance” dogs.
Please give a big paw’s up to Julie Karp, of Julie G Photography, based in Colorado, for taking some of these photos on our packaging. This professional photographer knows how to capture the soul and essence of dogs. Please learn more about her by visiting www.juliegphotography.com. Thank you, Julie!

Lucy

rescued in 2008 in Colorado – written by their daughter, Megan

I could not imagine life without little Lucy, even though we have only had her just under two years. My parents were out in Boulder, Colorado in 2008 when they stumbled upon a box of puppies abandoned in an alleyway right next to a popular restaurant, “Lucille’s.” Soon, other people came over to the shocking surprise. No one had ever seen puppies quite so cute. My mom and dad decided to take one of them, and the two others were taken in by other people that were there surrounding the box of shivering little puffballs. When they came home, my sister and I were surprised to see such an adorable little puppy. We named her Lucy after the restaurant where we found her. From the vet, we learned that she was a mix between a Sheba Innu, Pomeranian, and Shetland sheepdog. What a crazy combo! Today Lucy is the sweetest little 12 pound cutie ever. She enjoys cuddling, licking, running like a maniac, acting as if she is the biggest, mightiest dog around, and playing with her 50 pound Aussie sister. I am so glad Lucy came into our lives, and I am sure she feels the same way.
