Meet Smartdog Jerky’s Leader of the Pack — company founder Heather Merritt. This Southern California native and resident truly does lead the way with her enthusiastic energy, can-do entrepreneurial spirit and a mom’s determination to deliver the healthiest, best treats to dogs everywhere.

Next, meet Carly, a happy Black Labrador Shepherd mix, who eagerly takes on the role as professional treat tester. Talk about one lucky dog! Carly also serves as the source of inspiration behind the creation of Smartdog Jerky. As a young pup in need of a home, Carly unleashed her canine charm on Heather and became a member of the family that includes Heather’s 4-year-old son, Gavin, and a cool cat named Frankie.

Recognizing the importance of purposeful play and healthy exercise, Heather enjoys taking hikes with Carly, making weekly visits to Carly’s favorite bark park, and heading to the beach so Carly and Gavin can dig holes in the sand together. A successful business professional in real estate, Heather decided to pursue her true passion as a lifelong animal advocate by creating a line of nutritious and delicious dog treats.

“I couldn’t have asked for a better job than this,” declares Heather. “Being the founder of Smartdog Jerky has given me the opportunity to meet people who share my common interest in our love of animals.
